Ivan Dodig set an all-Croatian clash with second seed Marin Cilic at the BMW Open after beating two-time former champion Nikolay Davydenko 6-4, 6-4 in the first round on Monday in Munich.
Dodig broke serve three times as he ousted former World No. 3 Davydenko in 72 minutes. Davydenko lifted the trophy at this ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tournament in 2004 (d. Verkerk) and 2011 (d. Mayer).
World No. 56 Dodig has split his previous two meetings with Cilic, with his No. 11-ranked countryman winning most recently two months ago in Memphis. The 28-year-old Dodig is bidding to reach his third ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season.
